The operation of distributing plots of land in Laayoune reinforces efforts in order to enable disadvantaged groups to accede to social housing, as part of a comprehensive approach aimed at improving the living conditions of populations.



Since the launch of this operation, a total of 1200 plots of land were distributed for the benefit of widows and destitute families.

According to the Regional Inspectorate of Housing, Planning and Territorial Development, each family among the beneficiaries was granted a plot of 120 m2 in the city of Al-Wifak, conducted under the new program of housing and urbanism in the southern provinces.

Spread over the 2007-2014 period, the program focuses on achieving more than 68 000 plots of land to build 124 housing units for a total of 4.5 billion dirhams. According to the same source, this program, aiming to achieve 20 980 lots of land in the city of Laayoune, has allowed so far some 11,159 families to benefit from lots of land of 120 m2.

This operation is a continuation of previous operations performed during the 1979-1991 period for the benefit of 4,400 families. These efforts have continued during the period between 1996 and 2005 for over 10,100 families.

In order to allow other social groups to benefit from this operation, especially widows, divorced women and people with special needs, Commissions gathering sheikhs and notables of Sahrawi tribes continue transparent and speed examination of files and.


In order to satisfy the growing need for housing in the province of Laayoune, six housing projects comprising 3,267 lots of land and 60 homes at a total cost of nearly 346 million MAD were programmed.

These projects will consolidate the achievements made to strengthen the social development process in the region, which knows a strong momentum of growth in different areas of human and economic development.

Other projects are also underway for the redevelopment of under-equipped neighborhoods as part of a comprehensive vision that aims to improve the living conditions of the region’s inhabitants.
