The HRW, which deplores the absence of "outside observers on the ground to verify he (Mustapha Salma) is being humanely treated," recalled that Ould Sidi Mouloud was abducted on September 21, after he had expressed support for the Moroccan autonomy proposal.
Relatives of Mustapha Salma said in phone conversations with the HRW that he "has had no contact with his family since his arrest," the international NGO pointed out, urging the polisario to enable "him to communicate freely with his family."
The HRW recalled that on August 9, Mustapha Salma held a news conference in Smara (southern Morocco), where he commended the Moroccan autonomy plan as a viable solution to the conflict over the Sahara.
