UN Secretary General's Special representative of MINURSO Hany Abdelaziz denied, on Thursday, making remarks about "his concern over the human rights situation in the Sahara."

Hany Abdelaziz said, in a statement to MAP, that his remarks were inaccurately translated, noting that the word "concern" is vague. "I am not in charge of these issues, in conformity with UN Security Council resolution 1920."

He explained that, during his visit to the Tindouf camps, he held meetings and talked to the press about several issues, underlining that these statements "touched only on the mission he is tasked with."

He stressed that everybody shares the same feeling of frustration due to the non-resolution of the conflict.

"I share this frustration because we are not making any progress within the MINURSO," he said, adding that "not only populations in the Sahara and Tindouf camps are not satisfied with this situation, but also all the peoples of the region and the international community."

He underlined that "it is necessary to clarify this matter since there are some people and officials who did not get the message: we want to make some progress, we want to put an end to this dispute and restore brotherhood, as it should be, between siblings."
