The Moroccan Organization of Human Rights (OMDH) urged the United Nations' Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to take actions to save the lives of Ahmed Ballouh, Ahmed Salem Chibani and Mohamed Salek Ould Kiya, who are detained in the Polisario's prisons.

In view of the serious human rights abuses in the Tindouf camps (south-western Algeria), as evidenced by the cases of three Sahrawi detainees, the OMDH calls on the UN Secretary General "to make sure that the International committee of the Red Cross and the High Commissioner for Refugees accomplish their mission in this field," the OMDH said in a letter sent to Ban Ki-moon.

The Moroccan human right organization also stressed the need to ensure the detainees’ fundamental human rights and to put an end to this "worrying" situation.

The OMDH recalled that it had received a correspondence from the family of Ahmed Ballouh Hammou, who are held in the Tindouf camps, in which they voiced concern about Ballouh's life and sought the international human rights organizations’ support.

According to the three detainees’ families, their sons were arrested as a result of their opposition to the Polisario’s policies and their condemnation of the embezzlement by the separatist leaders of the humanitarian aid directed to the Tindouf population, the Moroccan NGO’s letter underlined.

It also said that the families informed the OMDH of the torture and inhuman conditions endured by their sons in the Polisario’s prisons.

The organisation mentioned to have sent last April a letter to the Algerian prime minister top allow visiting detainees at Tindouf, and to make sure of their health and the conditions of detention
This requirement was ignored added the Moroccan organisation , and another attempt was made last may, adding that detainees are kept in Tindouf camps, on the Algerian soil, and consequently the Algerian state  which signs the  Geneva convention has to implement its provisions.
