Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reiterated, On Wednesday in Moscow, his country's support for a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara issue.



  "Russia supports peaceful settlement of this conflict, as well as the UN plan which was accepted by the parties concerned," Lavrov said at a press conference following talks with his Moroccan counterpart Taib Fassi Fihri.

   Russia deems it "important to continue negotiations (on the Sahara issue) under the aegis of the United Nations to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution," he said, stressing that any progress on this issue will have a positive impact on the entire region at all levels.

    Lavrov said his talks with Fassi Fihri examined bilateral issues at economic, political and human levels, voicing satisfaction at the rise in trade with Morocco, Russia’s second trading partner in Africa.

    He also expressed satisfaction with the two countries' will to endeavour to promote bilateral cooperation, recalling several bilateral agreements on promising economic sectors, which enabled both countries to become major partners internationally.

    The official noted that bilateral cooperation in the fields of tourism, scientific research, agriculture and energy and mines will be boosted thanks to the two governments’ and economic public and private operators’ will to promote this cooperation.

    He said the opening of an air link between the two countries in future will reinforce contacts between businessmen and investors and enhance trade.
