An Indonesian delegation consisting of journalists and associations actors held, Tuesday in Dakhla, a series of meetings with elected officials, civil society actors and Sahrawis who fled the Tindouf camps to join homeland, Morocco.



Arrived Monday night in Dakhla from Boujdour, the delegation, which had visited Laayoune, was composed of Ms. Luluk Nur Hamida and Mr. Oslan Purba, respectively president and secretary general of Indonesian NGOs of human rights " Ahimsa" and "Kontras, and journalists Mr. Teguh Santos and Ms. Popi Rahim. 

During a meeting at the Regional Investment Center (CRI), members of the delegation attended a presentation by Mr. Abdelah Bouhjar, acting director of Dakhla CRI on the strengths and potentialities of the Oued-Eddahab-Lagouira region, upgrading urban and housing programs and projects, and development indicators in the key sectors of the social economy.  

Mr. Bouhjar gave an overview of the investments made by public authorities in different sectors to give the region the necessary infrastructure and ensure its socio-economic take-off relating to projects for the enhancement of the potentialities offered by the region, including fisheries, agriculture, livestock and tourism. 

Members of the delegation who held talks with chairmen of provincial and municipal councils of Dakhla, as well as parliamentarians from the region were informed of the dramatic change in the region since its return to the motherland, in addition to the achievements in various fields to propel the process of local development and improve the living environment of local people.

Local officials in Dakhla also gave a brief overview of recent developments on the question of territorial integrity of the Kingdom, highlighting the serious efforts made by Morocco to solve the question of the Sahara and the obstacles placed by Polisario and Algeria to obstruct peace efforts and perpetuate this artificial conflict. They stressed on this occasion the relevance of the proposed autonomy by Morocco and the commitment of local people to this peaceful initiative.

During a meeting with Sahrawis who joined the motherland, members of the delegation attended overwhelming evidence of violations of human rights in the Tindouf camps, the torture and oppression against prisoners in the jails of Polisario, and distortion of aid meant for sequestered people in the camps.

The delegation, which visited development facilities in the town of Dakhla, witnessed the dynalmics of associations and active participation of the various components of civil society in local development efforts.
