The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, received Tuesday afternoon at the council headquarters in  Rabat a Tanzanian parliamentary delegation headed by Mrs. Anna Marguerite Abdullah, a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs for Defense and Security in the Tanzanian parliament, as part of an official visit to Morocco which runs until 27 March.

During this interview, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid stated the Council’s missions the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the resolution of the Sahara conflict and the latest developments of the Sahara issue, namely the tour by the UN Special Envoy in the region, Mr. Christopher Ross, whose goal is to make the parties to the conflict to adopt a positive and practical position to resolve this sterile conflict that has lasted for over 30 on the basis of the Security Council resolutions calling for a political consensus. It should be noted that members of the Security Council qualified the autonomy initiative as credible and serious.

For her part, Ms Marguerite assured in a statement to MAP at the end of the meeting she learned with interest from Mr. Ould Errachid missions and the work undertaken by CORCAS and the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the Sahara, saying that the Council “has taken the right path to complete the project safely”.

She added that light was shed on the latest developments of the Sahara issue especially after Morocco’s submission of the autonomy proposal in this region to reach a final solution to this conflict.

The Tanzanian parliamentary delegation included six members of the Tanzanian Parliament and Anna Marguerite’s assistant. The meeting was attended by Corcas Secretary General Dr. Ben Maouelainin Ben Khalihenna Maouelainin, and Corcas Vice-chairman Mr. Khaddad El Moussaoui.

It should be noted that the Tanzanian parliamentary delegation met Monday in Rabat with Parliament speaker Mr. Mansouri. The two sides studied the Sahara issue and a series of issues of common interest, including the possibility of strengthening bilateral relations by creating a Morocco-Tanzania parliamentary group.
