The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Mr. Ould Khalihenna Ould Errachid received on Monday at the Council headquarters in Rabat, a delegation of British MPs from the Conservative Party currently visiting Morocco.



The head of the British Parliamentary delegation, Mr. Andrew Morrison said in a statement to the press that the meeting was fruitful as the delegation was unable to stand on the details of the situation in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

Mr. Morrison stressed the importance of cooperation with international partners and with the United Nations to reach a solution acceptable by all parties to the Sahara issue.

For his part, Daniel Kozinski said that the autonomy proposal put forward by Morocco is very important and fair to all parties, adding that Morocco is an important friend of Britain.

During the meeting, Khalihenna Ould Errachid highlighted developments in the Sahara issue, which is currently witnessing a new attempt to move forward by Mr. Christopher Ross, the UN special envoy who is currently touring the region within the framework of a visit that started last Thursday in Rabat and will end next Thursday, March 25 to Tindouf, Algiers and Nouakchott, searching for a political settlement of the conflict on the basis of the recent Security Council resolutions.

Mr Khalihenna Ould Errachid, who was accompanied by Corcas Secretary-General, Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khalihenna Maouelainin, and Corcas Vice President Mr. Khadad Moussaoui, the British government's efforts to find a political solution to the Sahara conflict, and its support for the UN efforts in this context.

The British delegation was composed of three deputies: Mr. Andrew Morrison, President of the British-Moroccan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Daniel Kozinski and Mr. Derek Conway.

The British Parliamentary delegation will hold during its visit to the Kingdom talks with a number of Moroccan officials.
