President of the Republic of Gabon, Haj Ali Bongo Ondimba held talks, on Tuesday, with the Chairman of the Royal Consultative Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid.

The meeting was an occasion to showcase the CORCAS role and mission as well as the approach adopted by Morocco to settle the artificial conflict over the Sahara, Ould  Errachid told the press.

The CORCAS head highlighted the importance of Morocco's Sahara initiative which aims to grant substantial autonomy to the southern provinces as a basis for negotiations.

President Bongo reiterated his country's full support for Morocco's territorial integrity, expressing "concern about  the negative impact of this conflict on the African continent," Ould  Errachid said.

It is time for  Morocco, one of the founding countries of the African Unity Organization, to regain its place within the Organisation, Bongo said, noting the major role played by the Kingdom in the continent, particularly its strong support for the various liberation movements.

The Gabonese President also expressed readiness to endorse the Moroccan stand on the Sahara issue in regional and international forums,  Ould Errachid added.
