The Network of Associations of the Moroccan community in Italy welcomed the support to autonomy plan expressed by the Minister of International Cooperation of the Italian region of Tuscany (North), Mr. Massimo Toschi, and his condemnation of "tragic and inhumane" situation of people sequestered in Tindouf in southwest Algeria.

Reacting to the statement of Mr. Toschi to the press in Laayoune, the network described as "courageous" and "frank" the position expressed by the Tuscan official called these camps as "prison", adding that this situation has been revealed several times by both organizations and reports internationally.

The position of Mr. Toschi is a testimony "wearing no doubt" since he visited the camps of Tindouf and maintained in the past, a "close relationship" with the Polisario separatists and those supporting them in Tuscany, says the Network in a statement sent Monday to the MAP.

The Network also welcomed the position taken by the Italian Minister about the project of autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty proposed by the Kingdom as part of settlement of the Sahara.

The Network noted in this connection, its commitment to deepen the ongoing dialogue established with the region of Tuscany on the Moroccan Sahara issue and also about issues affecting the areas of immigration, solidarity, peace, cooperation and dialogue between cultures and religions.

The Italian minister who was speaking after a meeting with the Wali of the region of Laayoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra, governor of the province of Laayoune, Mohamed Jelmous, highlighted the achievements of Morocco in the southern provinces in different areas.

He also called for work to find a solution to the disastrous situation in which live the sequestered people in Tindouf camps, noting that women and children in these camps are living in an "alarming" situation that requires urgent intervention to put an end to this tragedy.

On Friday, the issue of territorial integrity and the autonomy project in the southern provinces of the Kingdom was the focus of talks in Rabat between Mr. Toschi and Chairman of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH) Mr. Ahmed Herzenni.

The Tuscany official qualified as "prison" Tindouf camps that he had already visited, said Herzenni to the MAP at the end of this interview.
