Moroccan political parties have expressed indignation at the attitude of Aminetou Haidar, saying that they will not give in to blackmail.

Under the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, leaders of Morocco's political parties met on Tuesday to discuss the latest developments of the Moroccan Sahara issue, a statement of the Foreign Ministry said.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Taïb Fassi Fihri said that following the progress achieved by Morocco on the international scene thanks to the autonomy initiative, the enemies of the territorial integrity have devised a scheme aimed at blocking the negotiation process for a political solution and diverting attention by the instrumentalization of human rights.

While the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara Christopher Ross  was having consultations to hold a second informal meeting, several schemes were administered by the enemies of the Kingdom, the statement said, adding that the renouncing by Aminetu Haidar of her Moroccan nationality, on November 13, and the handing of her passport and identity card are part of this plot.

The meeting tackled mainly this particular case, as well as the demand made by the Spanish authorities to give Haidar back her Moroccan passport.

The leaders of Moroccan political parties noted that Haidar is responsible for this situation, since she was serving a political agenda set by her foreign sponsors, and her refusal of all proposals made by the Spanish authorities reveals her real intentions.

Haidar, who benefited for years of a Moroccan passport, decided, in a move that challenged Moroccan authorities and provoked the Moroccan people’s national feelings, to voluntarily hand over her Moroccan passport and identity card, the same source went on to say.

According to regulations in force, she returned back to her original boarding site, the Canary Islands in Spain, wherein she has a valid residency card. In these conditions, the Moroccan passport, as other national official documents, requires respect and dedication to motherland and cannot be object of acts of contempt and other hostile behaviours, says the statement.

All members of the Moroccan society decry the reckless and ungrateful behaviour of Aminatou, adds the press release, voicing opposition to give in to her blackmail attempts and plots of masters.

The political parties also expressed their keen attachment to the Moroccan-Spanish relations and affirmed that this question cannot be subject to foreign intervention, underlines the statement, defending Morocco’s sound and sovereign decision.

The political parties called on Moroccan government not to yield to the request made in this regard by the Spanish authorities. The fallouts of this issue, they say, coincide strangely with the kidnapping of three Spanish aid workers in Mauritania. An abduction act which shows the threatening criminal activities made by several terrorist groups in the region in connivance of some people living in the Tindouf Camps, southwestern Algeria.

According to Moroccan political parties, the sensible and fragile situation prevailing in the region requires collective efforts to face up security challenges and live up to the expectations of Maghreb citizens aspiring to achieve socioeconomic development and Maghreb unity.
