Major Event

A demonstration to support autonomy plan in the Sahara, within Morocco's sovereignty and national unity, took place Saturday night in Barcelona, with the participation of hundreds of Moroccans residing in Spain.

The event, held at the famous Cathedral Square in the Catalan capital Barcelona, was attended by presidents of many Saharawi Associations in Spain, Presidents of Catalan associations of Moroccan origin and several civil society organizations in Spain.

Convened at the invitation of several associations of the Moroccan community in Catalonia and by Saharawi associations in Spain, the event is part of the mobilization of Moroccans in Spain, in response to the historic speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to mark the 34th anniversary of the Green March.

Organized under the slogan "Yes to Autonomy Statute in the Moroccan Sahara", the event was attended by hundreds of Moroccans from all regions of Spain and Sahrawi provinces of southern Morocco, which raised with pride the Moroccan flag and banners calling for an end to the artificial conflict over the Sahara maintained by Polisario.

This event reaffirms the Sahrawi support to Morocco's proposal to grant broad autonomy to the Sahara, told to MAP, the President of the Saharawi Association of Territorial Unity (ASUT) in Spain, Ahmed Salla for whom "Morocco's proposal is the solution to settle the Sahara dispute.

He also added that the event is a "call" issued to all bright minds around the world in the international city of Barcelona to release the Saharawi people sequestered in Tindouf camps in Algeria and allow international organizations carry out their census.

Dr. Salla denounced the systematic violations of human rights in the Tindouf camps and torture to which people are subjected by Polisario torturers.

With this event, Moroccans in Spain have expressed very clearly their feelings toward the national cause and their total commitment to the Speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the Green March, said the President of the Saharawi Association of human rights (ASADEH), based in Catalonia, Messaoud Ramadan.

Denouncing the acts of some individuals who benefit from the climate of openness and democracy in Morocco to hurt the feelings of all Moroccans from Tangiers to Lagouira about the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Mr. Messaoud Ramadan wished to renew the attachment of Sahrawis to their Moroccan origins.

For the Moroccan MP of Saharawi origin, Ms Salla Boussoula, this event is an opportunity to hear the voice of the Sahrawi diaspora in Spain about the Sahara conflict, welcoming the mobilization of Sahrawi associations in Spain for advocacy of national and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The event, which attracted hundreds of people, offered the opportunity to reveal to the Spanish public violations of human rights perpetrated by Polisario.

The Barcelona event confirms the attachment of all Moroccans, in the Kingdom and abroad, to defend the territorial unity of Morocco and support Autonomy as the best solution shown to solve the artificial conflict over the Sahara, said the president of the Moroccan Sahara Association (MSA), Reda Taoujni who took part in the event.

Protesters claimed the lifting of the blockade imposed on the Saharawi population in the Tindouf camps, calling the Office of the United Nations for Refugees (UNHCR) to conduct a census of the Sahrawi Tindouf to identify their needs and aspirations.

The President of the Federation of Catalan Cultural Entities of Moroccan origin (FECCOM) Catalan MP of Moroccan origin, Mohamed Chaib, reaffirmed total mobilization of Moroccans in Catalonia and his readiness to defend the unity and territorial integrity of Morocco.

"It is the duty of every Moroccan, in Morocco and abroad, to defend the national cause," he said, asserting that the Moroccan proposal to grant broad autonomy to the Saharan provinces is the best way to solve the Sahara issue.

The vice-president of the Association of Immigrant Women in Catalonia (Ummi), Ms. Latifa Hassani said, meanwhile, that the whole Moroccan community in Spain, which expressed its full support to the speech Royal 6 November, is mobilized to defend the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

"The Moroccan community in Spain strongly condemned the recent actions by the enemies of our territorial integrity and demands immediate release of Moroccan citizens sequestered in Tindouf camps," she said.
