The Foreign Office minister in charge of Middle East and North Africa, Mr Ivan Lewis, said Tuesday in Casablanca, that his country welcomes the Moroccan autonomy initiative in the Sahara, and supports the efforts made by the envoy of the Secretary General of the UN in charge of the Sahara issue.



At a meeting with students at the Higher Institute of Journalism and Communication (ISJC) in Casablanca, the British minister said that Morocco has made significant progress in various fields, stressing that the privileged relations that bind the Kingdom to the European Union and Britain "are a recognition of this development and efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens".  

Mr. Lewis has also highlighted the existence of a genuine desire to achieve peace in the Middle East, indicating that the Middle East and North Africa need a new concept of partnership to set up active cooperation, overcome the fallout of the economic and financial international crisis, fight against terrorism and climate change and ensure security and stability throughout the world.
