Secretary of the Libyan General People's Committee, Al Baghdadi Ali Al-Mahmudi, has said his country supports Morocco's territorial unity.

He added, in an interview with the Arabic daily "Asharq Al Awsat" published on Saturday, that his country hopes to turn the page on the past marked by tepid relations between the two countries.

Al Baghdadi said Libya also supports the Moroccanness of the Sahara. "Our position is clear and unequivocal. We are for the territorial unity of the Kingdom of Morocco," he said.

He insisted that, in Libya, "we are keen to give a special character to relations with Morocco and remain close to each other towards building a strong Arab Maghreb Union capable of rising to the challenges facing it."

Al-Baghdadi Ali Al-Mahmoudi co-chaired with Moroccan Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, on Thursday and Friday, the eighth session of the bilateral high commission. The two countries signed a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding that cover various areas.
