The EU concerned about impact of Sahara issue on regional security, Swedish Ambassador United Nations - The European Union (EU) is concerned about the impact of the Sahara issue on regional security and cooperation, Swedish Ambassador to the UN, Anders Liden, said on Wednesday.



Speaking on behalf of the EU, following the adoption of a resolution on the Sahara by the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, Liden said the EU  fully backs the  efforts undertaken by the UN Secretary General to achieve a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution."

    "The EU will continue to encourage all parties to work for reaching a solution within the framework of the UN," he added, hailing the efforts made by Christopher Ross, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Sahara.

    The EU diplomat also called on the parties to continue cooperation with Ross with a view to back the political process, affirming that EU welcomes commitment of the parties to continue to show political will and work in an atmosphere propitious for dialogue.
