To that end, the delegation has endeavoured to clarify a number of issues related to the 34-year-old Sahara issue, provided information on the life conditions in the Southern Provinces, and called for reinforcing cooperation between Andalusia and this Moroccan region.

   It also invited its interlocutors to visit the Sahara to get further information on the situation there, and called on the Spanish civil society to work for developing relations with the southern provinces, especially in the economic and cultural fields.

   The delegation insisted that the Polisario, whose leaders are in office since 1976, do not represent the Sahrawis, deploring that the Spanish civil society turns a blind eye on the repeated human rights breaches committed by the separatists.

   It affirmed that the autonomy plan Morocco is proposing has gained the support of every body in the Sahara, as the only solution to the dispute. The plan offers broad autonomy to the region under sovereignty of the north African kingdom.

   For her part, PSOE secretary general in Andalusia, in charge of relations with the parliament, Elisa Rosa Maldonado underlined that her party praises this kind of debate and cooperation, and gave a overview of regionalisation in Spain, notably the work of the regional Parliament and its relations with Madrid authorities.

   The meeting took place in presence of the secretary general of the socialist parliamentary group, Antonia Jésus Moro, and members of the socialist group, Veronica Pérez, Antonio Nunez and Angel Gallego.
