During these meetings with the chairmen of the municipal, provincial and regional councils, and also of the chamber of agriculture, members of the American delegation, which represent both democrat and republican parties, have been informed of the prerogatives of these elected bodies, their role in terms of management of the local affairs, and their contribution to the achievement of the economic and social development.

 The presidents of the elected counsels explained the achievements and efforts made in the Sahara region, since its return to the homeland, in order to  strengthen the process of local development, meet the needs of the inhabitants and improve their living conditions.

 Answering questions asked by the American staffers, the elected officials have explained the potentials of the region, particularly in the agriculture, fishing, and tourism sectors, they  have also given an historical   outline about the evolution of the territorial integrity of the kingdom , and the non –stop efforts that Morocco is making with the aim to achieving a final settlement to this artificial conflict, in this respect they have  denounced the Algerian and polisario schemes aiming at enduring this problem and sap all initiatives tempting to put an end to this issue within the Moroccan sovereignty .

 After mentioning that the Polisario’s   leadership is   using “the suffering of Tindouf camps inhabitants,   by diverting the humanitarian aids sent o the camps, and becoming richer.

“They have insisted on the necessity to intervene with a view to put an end to the blockade of   the refugees in Tindouf camps, and their sufferings, in order to allow them to go back to their homeland.

 They have also confirmed their mobilisation to defend the territorial integrity of the   kingdom, their attachment to  Morocco, and the sacred values of the kingdom, in addition to their support to the autonomy proposal of the southern provinces, which is seen as a just and realistic solution, allowing Sahraouis to run their own affairs, within the framework of the Moroccan sovereignty.

  The local elected officials have voiced their gratitude for the support given by the Majority of the members of the American congress to support this proposal and put an end to this crisis.

 As to the representatives of the civil society of Dakhla they have provided the American staffers with information about the role of the NGOs in terms of local development.

 During the presence of the American delegation in Dakhla, they will visit the regional center of investment, and a number of projects of developments, in addition to some touristic sites.
