The autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, presented by Morocco, is the best choice for the revitalization of the integration of the Maghreb region, said Thursday in London, Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, president of the Consultative Council on Human Rights (CCDH).

The plan is also the best path to a peaceful settlement of the artificial conflict created around the territorial integrity of Morocco, Mr. Herzenni said during a panel discussion he moderated at the headquarters of the British Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House.

Recalling that the revitalization of the North African integration process remains an aspiration of all peoples of the region, CCDH President said that the autonomy plan is a "generous offer".

"No other offers can be as generous as this one," said Herzenni, noting that the historical facts show that the southern provinces have always been an integral part of Morocco.

He highlighted the climate of freedom that prevailed in the southern provinces like all parts of the Kingdom, noting that the participation rate recorded in the southern provinces at elections community, which took place recently in Morocco, was higher than the one achieved in several regions of the country.

This result, confirmed by international observers, confirms a trend observed since the first elections held in those provinces, he said, stressing that it reflects the attachment of the inhabitants of the southern provinces to their country , Morocco, and the high degree of political consciousness of these people.

The CCDH President has also invited the international human rights groups to shed light on violations of human rights in the Tindouf camps in Algeria.

He also called for lifting the siege imposed on Sahrawi Moroccans sequestered in the Algerian territory to enable them regain their homeland, Morocco.

The panel was marked by the participation of representatives of Amnesty International, Front-Line Association (based in Dublin), Reprieve lawyer firm and "Freedom for All" Association.
