Mr. Cascio, who met Thursday with Corcas Chairman Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, during the Council 1st regular session for the year 2009, said he encourages all actions undertaken by the CORCAS regarding the autonomy project. He cited the model of Sicily, which "has adopted for 60 years the autonomy model, while retaining links with Italy."
Paying a three-day visit to the Kingdom at the invitation of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Cascio has also met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Taib Fassi Fihri, and will meet with other Moroccan officials, with a view to signing a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the two Moroccan and Sicilian parliamentary institutions.
Statement:
From our experience, we believe that autonomy system, as the one we have in Italy, is the solution to end the Western Sahara conflict. We encourage CORCAS in this framework and support this initiative which would improve the situation in the Sahara.
