Hungary reiterated support for Morocco's project to grant substantial autonomy to its southern provinces, known as the Sahara.

This came in a meeting between Hungarian Foreign Minister, Kinga Goncz, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mustapha El Mansouri who is leading a parliamentary delegation on a visit to Hungary, a press release of the House or Representatives said.

The two officials discussed the latest developments of the Sahara issue and the means to boost bilateral cooperation in several fields, the release added.

During this visit which runs until March 27, the Chairwoman of the National Section of the Parliament Assembly of Francophonie,  Roza Hoffman offered a lunch at the Hungarian Academy of Science in honor of the Moroccan delegation.

In a bid to solve the three-decade old dispute over the Sahara, Morocco has proposed to grant substantial autonomy to the territory, which triggered four rounds of UN-brokered talks between Morocco, the Polisario and Algeria.

The plan, which offers autonomy under the north African kingdom’s sovereignty, was presented in April 2007, and was widely welcomed in the world’s influential capitals as serious and credible.
