Mr. Sidati El Ghallaoui, former Polisario representative in Italy has denounced Tuesday, the flagrant interference of Algeria in the Moroccan Sahara issue and its esclalation persistence when the UN is attempting to find a solution to this issue.

In a statement to MAP, Mr. Sidati said in his speech Monday before the Council on Human Rights that the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs should have taken a position of appeasement to help move towards a peaceful solution to the Sahara issue instead of opting for escalation by reporting alleged violations of human rights in the Moroccan Sahara.

The Algerian minister, he said, fails to mention the violations of human rights in his own country and especially in the camps of sequestration in Tindouf.

Mr. Sidati expressed his disappointment at the intervention of the Algerian minister, who instead of working for stability in the region, he added, has chosen to muddy the waters at Human Rights Council in order to shirk the responsibilities of his country regarding the protection of human rights in the Tindouf camps.

He noted that the intervention of the Moroccan delegation allowed highlighting the involvement of Algeria in the Sahara issue, as well as violations of human rights suffered by the populations in Tindouf camps.
