Sessions

Following the emergency meeting of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, held on Monday, April 16th in Rabat, the Council's chairman, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid made the following statement to the press.

We have held this special or emergency session to discuss this issue. All members, like the rest of the Moroccan people are ready to defend the national unity, territorial integrity and initiative submitted by Morocco to the United Nations to make it the ideal final, just and equitable solution to the Sahara conflict which has lasted more than thirty years. All members are convinced that this initiative will be the foundations of the final solution to this sterile conflict.

Mr. President, Polisario Front has also proposed an initiative of the other, is this initiative meant to block the initiative of Morocco.

The initiative is only for not a real initiative since it contains no new element. The goal is to interfere with the Moroccan initiative, but it will not be to do so.

So what do you expect from the Security Council.

First we trust in God and on our right and legitimacy. We will do everything in our power to help the States understand, as the others understood in the tour, which was ordered by His Majesty the King in more than thirty countries. Morocco has a right in the Sahara and this right lies in the vast majority of the population who support union with Morocco and the majority of the population who support this solution as optimal and equitable.

What is important is that the Sahara inhabitants, wherever they are in the region or in the camps or within the Polisario Front, know that the only possible solution to the Sahara conflict is the initiative of self-government. They also know that sooner or later there will be no other option that satisfies all parties. This is a firm conviction among Sahrawis, regardless of the United Nations, and all the things that took place relating to this conflict.

Sahrawis believe that after 32 years of conflict there is no solution that guarantee the rights for all parties except autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty, and in peaceful and fair manner.
