Mr. Rik Daems, chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee at the Belgian House of Representatives said he supported all proposals that would put an end to this long conflict.


Mr. Rick received on Wednesday at the Belgian Parliament in Brussels a delegation representing the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, chaired by Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid who introduced the proposal of His Majesty King Mohammed VI on self-government in the Sahara and the task entrusted to the Council in this regard.

The Council delegation, on a three-day visit to Brussels met on Tuesday with the President of the Belgian Senate Mrs. Anne-Marie Lizin, as well as many officials of political parties. The delegation held talks on Monday with officials of the European Union, and met Tuesday with members of the European Parliament

Statement by Mr. Rick Daems,

"I think that the establishment of the Council by His Majesty the King is very important. I talked with the President of the Council and its Secretary-General, as well with the rest of members and told them it is important to make progress in this direction and present the issue diplomatically and quietly. As Belgian Parliament and government, we appreciate this initiative and promise openness on this topic.
