The Moroccan delegation to the 4th round of UN-sponsored informal talks on the Sahara (December 16-18) arrived, Thursday afternoon, in Greentree, Manhasset (outskirts of New York).

The delegation is composed of Foreign Minister, Taïb Fassi Fihri, director of the intelligence agency, Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, and Secretary-General of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Maouelainin Khalihanna Maouelainin.

The new meeting, held at the invitation of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Sahara, Christopher Ross, will be, according to the UN, an opportunity to explore innovative approaches to try to create a climate that enables to make progress in negotiations.

It will bring together the Moroccan delegation and representatives of Algeria, Mauritania and Polisario.

During the third round of informal talks, held last November, the Moroccan delegation had stressed the need to give fresh momentum to negotiations based on a new methodology to come up with the sought-after political solution.

The talks, launched in August 2009 in Austria, are meant to prepare for the fifth round of official talks, aimed at achieving a final political solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
