A delegation of Morocco's Royal Consultative Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) held on Tuesday talks with the deputy president of the Federal Council, Conecny, who voiced hope the autonomy initiative will contribute to reaching a final solution to the Sahara dispute, a statement of Morocco's embassy in Vienna said on Wednesday.

CORCAS members also held talks at the foreign ministry with directors in charge of following up the Sahara issue, international organisations and the human rights department.

The high-level Austrian officials expressed their country's will to contribute to reaching a solution to this dispute.

During a press conference, deputy chairman of CORCAS, Kheddad el Moussaoui gave an overview of the situation in the southern provinces and the Council’s role in devising a strategy to promote the living and working conditions as well as the socio-economic development in those provinces.

El Moussaoui, who gave details on discussions at the UN and the inapplicability of the referendum, called on the UN Security Council to maintain and reinforce the logic of resolution 1813 calling for substantive negotiations on the Moroccan initiative, described as “serious” and “credible.”

On human rights, the delegation highlighted the bad faith of the adversaries of Morocco’s territorial integrity and their attempts to distort the facts in order to hinder the UN Secretary-General’s efforts for a realistic political solution to this issue.

The situation of human rights in these provinces has witnessed a remarkable and constant improvement that is recognized internationally, they asserted.
