Khalihenna: We will work to end the tragedy of our Sahrawi brothers on the other side of the Algerian border in Tindouf

The President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, Mr. Ould Errachid Khalihn said Thursday in Las Palmas that the autonomy proposed by Morocco is "the best and only solution" to the Sahara conflict, highlighting that this solution would serve the interests of the Canary Islands.




Ould Errachid, who was accompanied by members of the Council mentioned in this regard, the "failure" of the settlement plan and the identification of all Saharans called by the United Nations, pointing out that Saharans do not live only in Morocco but also in south-western Algeria, north-western Mauritania and northern Mali".

He continued to say that "free, fair, democratic and just referendum» requires borders change. He stressed the good will generated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI through the proposal of self-rule in the Sahara, as a solution involving everyone, and meeting all historical demands of Saharans at the political, economic, social and cultural levels.

He said in this context, "We will work to convince those in the Polisario camps in Tindouf to support of this idea. Because that is the only possibility to solve this problem," he drew attention to the urgent need to resolve this problem, which has lasted more than necessary, and therefore "put an end to this tragedy and suffering lived by our brothers on the other side "of the Algerian border in Tindouf. Ould Errachid renewed in this context his appeal of the Polisario for dialogue on the theme of self-government.

He added, in this context, "We would like to put an end to this conflict, and we want to sit around the same table and discuss all the issues raised, and we are ready to meet them (Polisario elements) anywhere they want, whether in the Canary Islands, Algiers, Geneva, New York, Rabat, or in any other place. "

Mr Ould Errachid said, "We also want to learn from the self-government of the Canary Islands" the closer archipelago to the Sahara to reach a "system that responds to the specificities of Morocco", stressing that the Canary Islands will greatly benefit from the settlement of this problem, especially at the tourist and economic levels, but also at the level of security and migration.

In this regard, the delegation of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs said to representatives of the media in the Canary Islands, its deep concern about the critical and inhumane conditions experienced by "our brothers in the Tindouf camps," recalling demonstrations that have taken place in recent days in the camps.
