Ivorian daily (Inter) reported on Wednesday humanitarian aid embezzlement to the Moroccans deprived of return to their homeland in Tindouf, pointing out that such assistance "has become a booming trade by senior Polisario officials".

The newspaper wrote in an article entitled "The humanitarian situation in Saharan camps: doubts about the humanitarian assistance" that, according to investigations conducted by non-governmental donors, there is decline of international humanitarian assistance ", that has become a booming organized trade by senior officials".

The newspaper pointed out that donations such as flour, oil, rice, lentils cans, milk and other materials are sold in internal markets, as well as outside these camps, particularly in neighbouring countries such as Mauritania and Mali.

The article’s author adds that "it is obvious that the transfer of such humanitarian assistance does not contribute only to the enrichment of the leaders of the armed movement, but also enrich their bank accounts", highlighting that at a time when Polisario warns international public opinion on the "difficult" humanitarian situation in these camps "it is getting ready to celebrate the movement’s anniversary on Februry 27 in Tifariti."

The Inter evoked the need that the High Commission for Refugees in takes full control of the distribution of such assistance to put an end to embezzlement.

The paper also opposed Polisario statistics relating to the number of people living in Tindouf camps, highlighting that Polisario leaders are trying to "pump up figures in order to obtain the largest amount of assistance".
