Ilaf: An official source said that the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah was briefed today in Marrakesh (south) on the project which will be submitted by Morocco to the United Nations to settle the dispute over Western Sahara. The Emir of Kuwait, who is paying a two day official visit to Morocco, met the chairman of the Royal Advisory of Saharan Affairs, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, which includes notables Saharans loyal to Morocco.



Ould Errachid said at the end of the meeting: "We have briefed Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah on the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs and the Moroccan proposal (autonomy) to settle the dispute over Western Sahara through dialogue." The Polisario Front which claims independence of Western Sahara rejected the Moroccan proposal stressing "the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination". During his visit to Morocco, the Emir of Kuwait met with the Moroccan monarch, King Mohammed VI, Prime Minister Driss Jettou and presidents of the Moroccan Houses of Parliament. 

Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah intensified his activities on the second day of his official visit to Morocco. He met this morning Moroccan dignitaries in the executive and legislative authorities. The first meetings were held at Prince residence in Marrakesh with Moroccan Prime Minister Driss Jettou. In a statement to the press, Moroccan Prime minister said that Morocco "benefits from very important loans from the Kuwaiti Fund for the Arab Economic Development, directed particularly to major projects such as roads, water, farming and other projects overseen by the Moroccan-Kuwaiti Union. He pointed out the presence of" very significant indicators to strengthen and expand this cooperation to include other sectors such as tourism, services and fishing particularly relating to the new Mediterranean port of Tangiers. "

Prince Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah held his second meeting with House Speaker Abdel Wahed Radi. The Moroccan official explained to the press that talks concerned parliamentary life both in Kuwait and Morocco, highlighting in this context, that the Emir of Kuwait stressed in this regard the need to strengthen and promote cooperation between the Moroccan and Kuwaiti parliaments".

On the same day the Emir of Kuwait met with Mustafa Okacha Chairman of the House of Counselors. Okacha mentioned «Kuwait’s positive positions towards Morocco particularly regarding the Kingdom’s territorial unity. In a statement to the press, he recalled that" Morocco’s positions towards Kuwait at a difficult time was honorable and distinct ", and noted that relations between the two countries is currently distinct" at the political, economic and social levels".

Among the important meetings held by the Amir of Kuwait Thursday morning, his meeting with Khalihenna Ould Errachid, chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs. The talks centred on what Khalihenna called “the artificial conflict in the Sahara”. He said, in a statement to the press, that he" explained to him the mission of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs and Morocco’s proposal on this dispute through negotiation and dialogue in accordance with international legitimacy and customs pursued by the Arab nation". He also informed him on the "Moroccan autonomy project which meets all the conditions set by the international community, along with the parties’ claims and the demands of the peoples of the Arab Maghreb in building this great edifice."

He explained that the proposal constitutes "an opportunity to turn the page of differences in the Maghreb and go to construction, progress and prosperity". Ould Errachid said that the Emir of Kuwait showed "great understanding due to the historical friendly and fraternal relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco and Kuwait as well as the personal relations between the Prince and King Mohammed VI". The Emir of Kuwait began yesterday, Wednesday, a first official visit to Morocco. A series of agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed on this first day.
