Asharq Al Awsat : the chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, said autonomy plan in the Sahara proposed by Morocco «is equal to self-determination”, which will put an end to the conflict and the sufferings of Sahrawis in Tindouf in south-western Algeria.

Ould Errachid said in a press conference, held during the first day of a working visit to Spain, that « the United Nations said that the solution to Sahara conflict should be peaceful and politically acceptable to all parties and quick, in order to put an end to 30 years of sufferings », indicating that« expanded autonomy is the only possible solution ».

He added that the autonomy project prepared by the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, is «satisfactory to all parties. Algeria which has been hosting Sahrawis over its territory for more than 30 years will preserve its dignity, and that Morocco will maintain its sovereignty. On the other hand, Sahrawis living in the Tindouf camps will return home to contribute to the country’s development ».

Ould Errachid pointed out that this is a solution «without winner or loser» that would enable Sahrawis handle their own affairs in transparency and democracy within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. He stressed that this project «is not a maneuver to gain time». He said that the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs, which reflects the composition of society and Sahrawi reality with its all tribal sensitivities, is ready to hold discussion with all parties, particularly the Polisario Front, which has to abandon «its dogmatism and become more pragmatic» to reach an acceptable solution by all parties.

Ould Errachid believes that referendum is inapplicable, as consultation should not include all the tribes which lived in the Sahara, a vast space that extends to the borders of four countries. With regard to Spain, Ould errachid called on entities sympathizing with «Polisario» not to benefit from the situation.

The corcas delegation will conduct during its visit to Spain, which will continue until next Tuesday, talks with Bernardino Leon Secretary of State (Minister of State) Spanish Foreign Affairs, and members of the Ibn Rushd Commission, and officials of political parties, Spanish trade unions and Moroccans residing in Spain.

Ould Errachid categorically refuted the news published by a Spanish newspaper, that the American State Department refused to receive the delegation from the Council in Washington.
Ould Errachid said that we have not so far « asked for a meeting» with the American Secretary of State, and therefore such are unfounded».
