Mr Kyuchyuk, who is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), warned that the conflict around the Sahara 'should not be used to hinder the EU's relations with Morocco, a long-standing strategic Euro-Mediterranean partner with an advanced European Neighborhood Policy status'.
In this context, he said that the autonomy proposal presented by Morocco in April 2007 is "an important step towards finding a lasting solution", noting that "efforts should be reciprocal to put an end to this conflict which has over 40 years ".
