The vast majority of the sequestered population in the camps of Tindouf, south-western Algeria, support Morocco's autonomy initiative for the Sahara and are in general disappointed by the failed promises of the polisario, said the Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khali Henna Ould Errachid.

In an interview published on Sunday by the Qatari paper "Al Watan", Ould Errachid said the Sahrawis, including the vast majority of those in the camps of Tidouf, support the Moroccan initiative for the Sahara and are disappointed by the instability and the unkept promises of the polisario.

These people seek stability and want to live in peace.  They also support the autonomy initiative and want the polisario to engage in negotiations for a final solution, the CORCAS president said.

The autonomy status, he explained, will enable them to enjoy several political, social and legal rights.

The CORCAS has managed to successfully address the issues it was charged with by HM King Mohammed VI in the last four years, he added.

"Thanks to that, we could alter the attitude of the international community vis-à-vis the Sahrawis' representation. Now the polisario is not the sole and legitimate representative of the people of the Sahara," Ould Errachid said.

Ould Errachid also hailed the “great efforts” made to promote social and economic development in various fields in the region.
