The Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid held on 5  September in Rabat, talks with the personal envoy of UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Peter Van Walsum , which focused on the Sahara issue, including autonomy in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.

In a statement after the meeting, Mr.  Khalihenna Ould Errachid stressed that "the agreement of parties is the solution to this issue where there is neither a winner nor a looser. It is autonomy that will allow the Sahrawi population enjoy all their political, economic, social and cultural rights, and Morocco to consolidate its sovereignty over its southern provinces» .

For his part, Mr. Peter Van Walsum qualified as "good idea" the project of autonomy proposed by Morocco. "I think it's a good idea that such a project exists, even if it can not solve the problem all of a sudden," said Peter Van Walsum.

"I think it is important to know Morocco’s proposal, supported by the Government on this issue," he added.

Mr. Peter Van Walsum
Change that happened since my first visit in October is that there was no Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs. I asked the President of the Council to speak first because I do not know to what extent he can discuss the particulars of the Sahara, but the President went far and revealed facts to which I can add nothing.
