A delegation from the city of Rufisque (Senegal) is visiting Dakhla from November 22 to 26 to implement the partnership agreement on the modalities of implementation, monitoring and acceptance of the redevelopment of the public garden of Rufisque and the establishment of an urban planning agency in the same city.

In this context, the members of the delegation of Rufisque (25 km east of Dakar) examined the documents relating to the launch of the development work of the public garden, with a children's playground and conducted consultations on the model of the urban planning agency in the same city.

The project relating to the development of the public garden is designed according to Moroccan architectural and traditional standards, requiring a budget of 3.5 MDH, financed to the tune of 60% by the African Fund for the Support of International Decentralized Cooperation of Local Authorities.

The municipality of Dakhla will mobilize a budget of 1.05 MDH, or 30% of the overall amount, while the municipality of Rufisque will contribute with an amount of 350,000 Dhs, or 10% of the cost of the project.

Thus, the Rufisque delegation held meetings with the president of the Dakhla Communal Council, Erragheb Hormatallah and the director of the Urban Agency of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Moulay M'hamed Hamou and the secretary general of the wilaya, during which the parties have reiterated their firm commitment to complete the actions of cooperation as soon as possible.

The members of the delegation will have working meetings at the headquarters of the Urban Agency of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab and the municipality of Dakhla to finalize the two projects of development of the public garden of the city of Rufisque and the creation of the Urban Planning Agency of Rufisque.

The visit of the Rufisque delegation is in line with the implementation of the conventions signed on the sidelines of the "Africities 8" Summit held in Marrakech in November 2018 between Moroccan and African cities.

This partnership brings together, in addition to these two cities, the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG-Africa), the United Nations Human Settlements Program UN-Habitat and the Urban Agency of Dakhla Oued Eddahab, in its capacity as representative of the Federation of Urban Agencies of Morocco (Majal).

The visit of the delegation is also in the wake of the process of operationalization of this partnership as specified by the workshop in Dakar in April 2019, under the theme "urban planning and territorial development: challenges and opportunities for African cities" aimed at strengthening the spirit of partnership that animates the Moroccan and African cities.

The Dakar Workshop comes to consecrate the will of African countries, gathered in the framework of the Africities Summit in November 2018 in Marrakech, to voluntarily and prospectively engage in the exchange of information, expertise and experiences between the Senegalese and Moroccan authorities in charge of urban planning and territorial development.

The members of the delegation had the opportunity to visit some structuring projects in Dakhla, in order to note the level of development that the city of Dakhla has experienced in all sectors, which concretely reinforces the position of Dakhla and its vocation as a link between Morocco and its African extension.
