The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) reaffirmed, Wednesday before the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, its support for the political process under way under the auspices of the United Nations aimed at reaching a "mutually acceptable political solution" to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.


In a statement on behalf of the CELAC countries, the Permanent Representative of Mexico to the United Nations stressed that the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States "is still strongly supporting the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to achieve a just, durable and mutually acceptable political settlement" to the Moroccan Sahara issue, in accordance with the United Nations charter and the relevant resolutions by the General Assembly and the Security Council.


In this regard, the Mexican diplomat affirmed that the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States supports multilateral efforts aimed at reaching a settlement to this regional dispute, under the auspices of the UN Secretary General and in accordance with resolutions adopted by the Security Council since 2007, including resolutions 2440, 2468 and 2494.
