The historic breakthrough and major diplomatic triumph that Morocco achieved in 2020, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, on the path to the consecration of the Kingdom's territorial integrity and its legitimate sovereignty over its Sahara, were consolidated and strengthened in 2021.
The recognition by the United States of the Moroccanity of the Sahara in 2020 was confirmed by the new American administration that took office in January 2021.
The process of opening consulates in the cities of the Moroccan Sahara continued with the reaffirmation in 2021 by many countries of their position of support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
It is worth noting in this regard that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reaffirmed strongly, at its last summit held in December 2021, the support of its member countries to the Moroccan Sahara and the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
The high point of this great success was the democratic mass of the general elections of September 8, 2021, through which Sahrawi citizens have confirmed again, by their massive participation in the polls, their unwavering commitment to the institutions of their country and their constant mobilization for active participation in the management of affairs at the level of their region and nationally.
The strengthening of democratic institutions in Morocco, particularly at the regional level in the Moroccan Sahara, as well as the continued implementation of the new development model and ongoing development projects, are other achievements that have marked this year 2021.
This year has seen another important advance, that of resolution 2602 adopted by the UN Security Council in October 2021 and which establishes once and for all the need to find a political solution for the artificial dispute around the Moroccan Sahara through the round tables by engaging the direct responsibility of Algeria.
All these aspects have contributed to strengthening the image of the Kingdom as a partner acting in favor of a multilateral solidarity in the service of peace and international security.
