Guinea Conakry reaffirmed its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only solution to the Sahara dispute.

This position was expressed, Tuesday in Rabat, by minister of Foreign Affairs and Guineans Abroad, Mamadi Touré, at a joint press briefing with minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Nasser Bourita. "We reiterate Guinea's position and commitment to Morocco in support of the Moroccan initiative on the Sahara issue, where Guinea has clearly defined its stance in favor of the Moroccan autonomy initiative, which remains the only solution to the dispute over the Sahara," Touré said after his talks with Bourita. "We will continue to work on this issue whether at the level of the United Nations or the African Union", he stressed, highlighting the AU's commitment to the Sahara issue through the creation of a mechanism, in the form of a troika, which will be in charge of monitoring developments in the Sahara issue at the United Nations. He thus reiterated Guinea's position regarding compliance with decision 635. Touré also praised the excellent level of relations between Morocco and Guinea Conakry, noting that this visit is part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, which dates back to the time of the late king HM Mohammed V. "Relations have been further strengthened under the reign of HM King Mohammed VI and president Alpha Condé," he stressed, reiterating his country's commitment to further boost this exemplary relationship. During these talks we also reviewed the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries, the majority of which are being implemented, which testifies to the fraternity and solidarity between Morocco and Guinea," said the Guinean minister. "Today, bilateral cooperation is, more than ever, at its best. The two heads of State have developed a well-defined roadmap," he noted, adding that his country has benefited from Morocco's support on several issues, especially in training.
