The Moroccan delegation to the 39th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva blasted over the false Algerian allegations on the situation in the Moroccan Sahara.

Responding on Tueday to the statement by the Algerian delegation, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the United Nations Office in Geneva, ambassador Omar Zniber, voiced his total rejection of the unacceptable and erroneous statements made by the Algerian delegation on the situation in the Moroccan Sahara, recalling that this country has been involved for more than 45 years in the absurd maintaining of the regional political dispute over the Sahara.

The involvement of Algeria is unacceptable, especially since this country has a long history of human rights abuses, as was highlighted in the report of the Human Rights Committee issued on July 26, said Zniber.

He noted that this Committee has, among other things, strongly regretted that Algeria is violating its international obligations with regard to the protection of refugees by devolving jurisdiction on its territory to a fake entity.

The committee also stigmatized mass, forcible expulsions of migrants by the Algerian authorities, in blatant contradiction with humanitarian principles, said the Moroccan diplomat.

These actions do not allow the representatives of Algeria to make baseless allegations about Morocco, which is known for its noteworthy progress in promoting and respecting human rights, he said.

Morocco received, in its Saharan provinces, many delegations, foreign parliamentarians, international NGOs, senior UN officials, including the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, and UN Special Rapporteurs who freely met with the representatives of populations, the regional human rights committees and the local associations, in a spirit of dialogue, on the prevailing atmosphere of freedom and the remarkable development taking place in the Moroccan Sahara, he underlined.
