A Nigerian parliamentary delegation hailed on Saturday in Laayoune the upturn in the southern provinces and achievements in different areas in this part of the Kingdom.

The delegation members, led by the chairman of the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee on International Parliamentary Relations, Samuel Okon Ikon, expressed admiration for the great momentum of development in these provinces as a result of the visionary vision of HM King Mohammed VI.

"We are impressed by the accomplishments of the Moroccan state, which have helped to transform the region on all fronts," said Okon Ikon in a statement to the press after a meeting with the Regional Investment Center (RIC).

In this respect, he welcomed the region's potential and important infrastructure and investment opportunities it offers in different sectors.

During this meeting at the CRI, the Nigerian delegation followed a detailed presentation on the assets of the region, infrastructures it has and structuring projects realized or in progress thanks to the new model of development of the southern provinces initiated in 2015 by HM King Mohammed VI in Laayoune.

The visit also allowed the Nigerian delegation to witness the climate of security, tranquility and stability prevailing in the region.

Arrived Friday evening in Laayoune, as part of a visit to the Kingdom, members of the delegation also held a meeting with the chairman of the city council of Laayoune, Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid.

During this meeting, the Nigerian delegation was informed of the council's powers and development efforts in various fields.

The meeting was also an opportunity for members of the city council of Laayoune to mention historic links uniting Saharawi tribes to Sovereigns and Glorious Alaouite Throne. Mr. Ould Errachid reiterated the commitment of the people of the southern provinces to autonomy plan proposed by Morocco for the final settlement of this artificial dispute, highlighting the support of the international community for this initiative, described as serious and credible.
