On August 14, 1979, Moroccans lived with pride and satisfaction, the return to the mother country of the province of Oued Ed-Dahab, a date that will forever be etched in the national collective memory as synonymous with memorable day in the finishing process of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

The commemoration of this historic event, which marked a turning point in the national struggle for the closure of the file of the occupation and consecration of independence, is of profound significance for the Moroccan people as a whole, since it marks the end of the colonial presence in the Saharan provinces and another national event alongside the glorious Green March.

By that date, corresponding to Ramadan 20, 1399, the Ulema, notables and tribal chiefs of the province of Oued Ed-Dahab visited the Royal Palace in Rabat to renew their allegiance to late King Hassan II, thus reviving their History and reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the glorious Alawite Throne.

It was a historic moment immortalized by the address in which the late sovereign said: "We have just received on this blessed day, your allegiance, as a sacred trust.

Now, you must honor that oath. From our side, we also are committed to ensure your defense and security and work tirelessly for your well-being. Dearest sons, welcome to your country. Thanks to the Almighty, we have achieved all benefits by linking the Southern part of Our country to its northern part and restoring blood ties between inhabitants".

Persevering on the path set by his august father, King Mohammed VI has a special interest in the southern provinces consolidating a constant national mobilization able to thwart all conspiracies of the enemies of Morocco's territorial integrity.

In this regard, HM the King held in his speech marking the 17th anniversary of the accession of the Sovereign to the Throne of His glorious ancestors, "to again invite all citizens to remain vigilant and mobilized to counter the maneuvers of opponents, who are mad with the development and progress witnessed by the Moroccan Sahara. "

The Sovereign added "all conspiracies, hidden and revealed, will fail to start our determination to continue the implementation of the monitoring model of development in our southern provinces."

"While some have tried to make 2016" a critical year ", Morocco, for its part, succeeded in making it" the year of firmness "on the preservation of its territorial integrity," said His Majesty the King, stressing that Morocco will continue to defend its rights and take steps to counter slippage ahead.

"We do not surrender to any pressure or attempted extortion in a case that is sacred to all Moroccans," noted His Majesty the King during his speech to the nation.

Indeed, the development projects initiated by the Sovereign in the region and the opportunities offered by the advanced regionalization to promote effective community involvement in the management of their business, will make the Sahara region an integrated economic pole.

The Sahara will be able to play the historic role a shub for trade between Morocco and Africa, and also with the North, said the Sovereign.

In commemorating this event which illustrates an epic episode of the saga of the struggle for independence, Moroccans, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, reminisce the values of patriotism and active citizenship necessary for the defense of sacred principles and immutable constants of the Kingdom.
