Head of EU diplomacy welcomes progress of human rights in southern provinces

Morocco is a privileged partner of the European Union

The High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, welcomed Tuesday achievements in the human rights situation in the Sahara region.



"The decision of the Moroccan authorities to register associations of human rights previously working outside the legal framework and the role of regional commissions of the CNDH (National Council for Human Rights) on site seem capable of contributing to a more favorable environment, "Ms. Mogherini estimated, at the press conference held with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar.

The statement by the High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy comes after the reaffirmation of the support the EU provides to the process of finding one single political solution towards final settlement of the Sahara issue .

The European official also said that Morocco is a privileged partner of the European Union (EU), especially in the area of ​​security, prevention and fight against terrorism and in the management of migration.

 During his visit to the Kingdom, Ms. Mogherini held talks with several Moroccan officials to review the privileged relations between Morocco and EU and ways to deepen bilateral cooperation particularly in the economic, migration and security fields, as well as ongoing review of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) and the role of Morocco in the new ENP.
