The chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, met July 20 in Rabat, with the French ambassador in Morocco, Mr. Jean-François Thibault.
During this interview, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid informed the french diplomat of the composition of CORCAS and missions assigned to it.
He also explained to Mr. Thibault historical phases covered by the Sahara and the internal and external factors that contributed to internationalize this issue, recalling in this regard the failure of the UN plan to organize a referendum in the region.
CORCAS chairman has qualified the autonomy project in the southern provinces a platform designed to involve the inhabitants of southern provinces to manage their own affairs in accordance with the democratic choice of the HM King Mohammed VI.
He also expressed to the French ambassador in Rabat, the positive results of the recent visit by a CORCAS delegation to France and Spain and meetings with local governments in both countries.
For his part, Mr. Thibault described as "positive" the meeting with the President of CORCAS, expressing France’s will, as international power, to work towards finding a political solution to this conflict in accordance with international legality.
During the meeting, Ambassador of France in Morocco was accompanied by Ms. Marie-Annick Bourdin, second counselor of foreign policy (Sahara issue) at the French Embassy in Rabat.
