Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, President Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs held on Tuesday December 19, 2006 in Rabat, discussions with Ms. Herta Doblair Gimelein Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights at the German parliament. Mrs. Herta Doblair Gimelein stated in a statement to the press that talks focused on the autonomy in the southern regions, indicating that the President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs have provided explanations on this initiative and wished "good luck for this project."



In response to a question about the detainees in the camps of Tindouf, the Chairperson of the Commission on Human Rights at the German parliament stressed the need to "overcome the difficulties" experienced by these detainees. She regretted the fact that the Sahara conflict has sadly lasted, considering that "a realistic solution will enable these families to be reunited and put an end to their tragic destiny."

This meeting was attended by members of the delegation accompanying Herta Daubler-Gmelin, the Ambassador of Germany in Morocco, and members of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs. Ms. Herta Daubler-Gmelin, former German Minister of Justice and a member of the Social Democratic Party, served as Chairperson of the Commission on Human rights and humanitarian assistance at the German Parliament since November 2005.

We hope to put an end to the suffering of the detainees and that these families will be reunited. We know the position of the United Nations. With respect to the project prepared by the Council, we hope it will enjoy confidence of all Sahrawis and contribute to a way out of this conflict.
