Massoud Ould Ahmed Alem Ould Othmane, 68, arrived on January 21st in the southern city of Laayoune, his native city, as part of the family visit exchange, carried under the supervision of UNHCR.
He told the press he was happy and proud to leave the Tindouf camps, after 31 years of suffering, to join his homeland and his relatives.
Massoud Ould Ahmed described the tragic living conditions suffered by the population detained in the camps, calling for lifting the blockade imposed on the camps to enable these Moroccans to return home and join their families.
He also commended the Moroccan autonomy proposal, which will enable the population of the southern provinces to run their own affairs.
The members of the family of Massoud Ould Ahmed expressed joy at the decision of one their relatives to stay home, calling for lifting the siege imposed on Sahrawis in those camps to put an end to the ordeal they are going through.
Earlier this month, another Sahrawi and a woman and her two children, beneficiaries of the family visit exchange, have decided to stay in the southern provinces after years of suffering in the camps.
