The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, underlined, here Tuesday, that the appointment of his new special envoy to the Sahara "could take a little bit more time."



    "I have started the consultations with the parties concerned for a particular person whom I have an intention to appoint. It may take a little bit more time for me to consult with the parties concerned," he said at a press briefing.
  
    Ban ki-moon, however, made it clear the he "is very much committed, in view of the long standing conflict issue of western Sahara, to expedite this process of negotiations as soon as possible and as soon as the special envoy is appointed."

    "In the mean time, I have spoken with the leaders of the concerned parties, while conforming to all their respective commitment to see the continuation of the negotiations, whether we can promote measures to facilitate the humanitarian aspects," the UN official underlined.
  
    Recalling that "there are some agreement that separated families can go by air but whether they could visit their families through land," Ban ki-Moon renewed his commitment to continue giving priority to the Sahara issue.
