Morocco makes efforts to "promote dialogue" in a bid to find a "final solution to the Sahara issue for the good of the sub-region," said, here Wednesday, Canada's ambassador to Morocco, Michele Levèsque.

Speaking at the end of a meeting with chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Khalihenna Ould Errachid, Levèsque said the meeting evoked notably the process to undertake at the United Nations to get ahead with this issue.

The Canadian diplomat also voiced "satisfaction" over this meeting with CORCAS head, which has allowed her to "better understand the Moroccan perspective" vis-à-vis the Sahara issue, which erupted in 1976 following the Polisario's claims to separate the kingdom's Southern provinces, known as the Sahara. The former Spanish colony was retrieved by Morocco in 1975 under the Madrid Accord signed with Spain and Mauritania.

Declaration by Michelle Levesque: "I was here on a visit to the Council, because I want to understand well the steps of Morocco regarding this conflict. I am very happy for the information and explanations given to me in this regard"
