The date of 14 August 1979 will remain forever engraved as a memorable step in the process of completion of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity. On this day, Moroccans have witnessed, with pride and great satisfaction, the return to motherland of the Oued Eddahab province.

 



Since then, the Moroccan people commemorate this historic event which marked a turning point in the national struggle for the final settlement of this colonization issue consecration of Independence.


On August 14, 1979 the inhabitants of this province, through their clerics, community leaders and representatives of different tribes, have moved to Rabat to renew to His Majesty Hassan II their oath of allegiance thus reviving their History and reaffirming their unwavering commitment to the glorious Alawite Throne.

 
After this loyalty event, the late sovereign carried out on March 4, 1980, a visit to Dakhla, the capital of Oued Eddahab, where populations directly renewed their allegiance to the King, thus reaffirming their sense of national belonging and their unwavering desire to preserve the unity of the Kingdom, from Tangier to Lagouira. 
 
This visit was of great significance historically and politically and put an end to allegations and conspiracies by the enemies of Morocco, which had not ceased since the recovery of southern provinces in 1975, thanks to the glorious Green March, multiplying their efforts to undermine the Kingdom’s territorial integrity.  

Nearly 30 years after recovery, the province of Oued Eddahab has become a model of economic and social development. The socio-economic projects that continue to emerge in this young Province, have enabled this region to experience intense economic development.

The celebration of the anniversary of the return of the province Oued Eddahab to the motherland is of profound significance for the Moroccan people as a whole, since it marks the end of the colonial presence in the Saharan provinces.

The commemoration of this anniversary is a happy occasion to remember national values which are the basis Moroccan history and rekindle the sense of citizenship to preserve unity and move forward in the building and development process in various fields.
