The UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, received on Friday, at the UN headquarters in New York, a Moroccan delegation composed of MM. Taieb Fassi Fihri, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, Executive Officer of Studies and Documentation, accompanied by the permanent representative Ambassador of the Kingdom at the UN, M. El Mostafa Sahel.

At this occasion, the Moroccan delegation handed to the UN Secretary General a written message from His Majesty the King Mohammed VI, May God Assist him. The Royal message concerns mainly the evolution of the Moroccan Sahara issue within the UN context.

The Moroccan delegation reminded the momentum created by the Moroccan autonomy initiative thanks to which a new negotiations process have been committed in Manhasset since April 2007.

His Majesty the King’s envoys also reminded that the successive resolutions of the UN Security Council (April 2007, October 2007 and April 2008) were more and more explicit concerning the goals, orientations and negotiation terms.

The Security Council has, in fact, called for negotiations deepening in a substantial way based on compromise and realism, principles constituting the basis for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as part of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Morocco.

Within this context, the Moroccan delegation renewed the Kingdom’s firm commitment to meet the hopes of the international community in order to reach a final political solution for this regional conflict.
