The President of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Mr. Khallihenna Ould Errachid, had a discussion on Friday, in Rabat, with His Excellency Mr. Rizwan UI Haq Mahmoud, Ambassador of Pakistan in Morocco.

This discussion, held in the CORCAS headquarters, has been about the recent developments of the Sahara issue.

In fact, Mr. Khallihenna Ould Errachid has started by presenting the different stages of the Kingdom’s decolonization, stressing that the decolonization process with France took place in one stage whereas the negotiation process with Spain was accomplished in many phases. The final phase of the Sahara region recovering was achieved after the glorious Green March having enabled Morocco to get back the Western Sahara  in 1975.

Mr. Ould Errachid has informed His Excellency the Ambassador of Pakistan in Morocco about the support of the international community and the Security Council to the Moroccan proposal granting autonomy to the Sahara region, in the light of the last Resolution of the Security Council and the historical intervention of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General in the region, Mr. Van Walsum, during an extraordinary session held in the United Nations and during which he has confirmed his strong conviction that the creation of an independent state in the Sahara region is an unrealistic project.

Mr. Ould Errachid has furthermore reminded of the support of all the Arab and Muslim countries to the Moroccan autonomy proposal in the region. He has also stressed that 35 African countries have no idea about the pretended Sahrawi Republic (SADR), self-proclaimed in Tindouf, in the Algerian territory, and that they back up a political solution for the conflict which is acceptable by the parties.

This meeting has taken place in the presence of Dr. Maouelainin Ben Khallihenna Maouelainin, Secretary General of the CORCAS as well as Mr. Khadda El Moussaoui, Vice- President of the CORCAS

Statement

We want to continue the process of negotiations, Morocco's efforts in this path is positive and constructive. We hope that these negotiations will bring about solutions.
