 The Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs continues today, Wednesday, April 5, 2006 in Rabat its works in closed session. The council’s Chairman, Mr. Khalihenna Ould Errachid, said in a statement before resumption of works that the council will study the draft rules of procedure prepared by the Technical Committee which was formed yesterday, Tuesday, for this purpose.



 He added that the meeting will end this evening vote on the draft rules of procedure before submitting them to His Majesty the King. Mr. Ould Errachid pointed out that tomorrow, Thursday, nine Vice-Presidents who will form the council’s office will be appointed.

The Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs opened yesterday, Tuesday, works of the first meeting, a few days after the nomination by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of its new members during the historic visit of His Majesty to the southern regions. The works of the council’s first meeting was marked by he chairman speech who stressed that every one of the Council members "feel deep inside the responsibility entrusted to us by the Commander of the faithful, which would be an incentive for us to mobilize so as to be able to carry out this challenge with determination and responsibility ".

He explained that Royal will help the Council members to work with "seriousness, dedication and selflessness and genuine patriotism," and fulfil their duties "without restrictions or political administrative or bureaucratic obstacles."

It is worth noting that the Dahir on the organization of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs identified its basic tasks in defending the Moroccan Sahara, contributing to economic and social development of the southern territories, and maintaining cultural specificities within a unified national identity.
