The President of the Canary Islands government, Mr. Paulino Rivero (Canary Coalition), met Wednesday afternoon at the headquarters of the Presidency in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with members of the delegation from the Moroccan southern provinces, currently visiting the Spanish archipelago.



The delegation is composed of Mr. Dahi Ahmed, member of the Central Committee of the Istiqlal Party (PI), Fala Bossoula, MP from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) in Laayoune, Sidi Ahmed Mahmoud Terrouzi, president of the provincial council and member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), and Ramdam Messoaud Larbi, CORCAS member and president of the Sahrawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH).

The meeting, which was held in the presence of the Commissioner in charge of External Action at the Canary Government, Ms. Elsa Casas and the Director General of Relations with Africa, Mr. Pablo Martin Carbajal, focused particularly on ways to promote cooperative relations between the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands and southern provinces of the Kingdom, the latest developments of the Sahara issue and the ongoing process of negotiations between the parties to the conflict.

On this occasion, the delegation briefed members of the Canary Executive about the Moroccan autonomy Initiative for the southern provinces which received support from the international community and peoples concerned.

Previously, the delegation had held a meeting with the Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, M. Miguel Zerolo and with representatives of the Socialist Party (PSC) at the autonomous parliament, in the presence of Juan Francisco Hernandez Spinola (vice secretary general) Blas Trujillo (parliamentary spokesman) and Julio Cruz Hernandez (deputy spokesman).

The delegation, which talked Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the Speaker of the Canary Islands Parliament, Antonio Castro, will travel to Las Palmas to with local officials in the Island of Gran Canaria.
